WISHAW COMMUNITY FOODBANK

At the request of Basics Foodbank (Lanarkshire) the Kirk Session of SWPC agreed to take over the running of the provision of a foodbank for the Wishaw area. Basics have provided this vital service for a number of years and sadly the demand has not abated. Indeed due to the difficulties experienced by many over the last year, where jobs have been lost and incomes badly affected, this provision has become even crucial in helping people in our community at their time of greatest need.

In order to help to raise the funds to put storage in place and provide the finances to purchase necessary items at times when demand may outstrip supply, our Minister, Rev Terry Moran, set out to walk the length of the West Highland Way virtually – walking on a treadmill in the manse. Having failed to complete the real thing 35 years ago Terry was delighted to finish the whole 96 miles. He promises to do the actual walk when things are back to relative normality and hopes to raise further funds for the foodbank to augment the monies people generously gave this time around.

You can see how Terry got on during his virtual walk and hear some hilarious stories about his failed first effort on our Youtube channel. You can also give a donation for this work anytime if you haven’t managed to do so yet.
